Introduction to iOS Development

Build iOS and Mac applications with Apple's Swift programming language.

Students will learn to program in Swift Apple's new programming language, through the XCode development environment. The course will focus on designing iPhone applications, and is based on our open-source Swift curriculum. The goal is for students to understand the entire process of creating an app and deploying it to the Apple app store. During the course, we will be joined by guest speakers from Apple (down the road from techlab), who will share their insights into user experience and interface design. This course teaches the Swift programming language through its application to iPhone app development. Our unique project-based approach to teaching begins with simple apps like counters and tip calculators, and progresses into the range of user interface elements provided by iOS like tables and navigation.

  • programming fundamentals in Swift
  • entire process from creating to deploying app store apps
  • hands-on coding project for IOS platform

We strongly recommend that students enter this course with some prior programming experience with an object-oriented programming language like Java or Python. The Swift language has unique and complex syntactic forms that make it a poor choice for a first programming language.
